About Modern Shift
Modern Shift is a Calgary‑based boutique consultancy focused on Microsoft 365 governance, modernization, and employee experience.
The goal is simple: help organizations build secure, compliant, employee‑centric digital workplaces — without noise, complexity, or generic advice.
Who I Am
Modern Shift is owned and operated by Morio Kumagawa, a senior Microsoft 365 consultant with deep experience supporting public‑sector and regulated organizations across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.
With a background in governance, information architecture, migration strategy, and employee experience, I help organizations move beyond ad‑hoc configuration and into intentional, well‑documented, audit‑ready Microsoft 365 environments.
What I Believe
- Governance should be practical — not theoretical or overwhelming.
- Documentation matters — it’s the difference between sustainability and chaos.
- Security and compliance come first — especially in regulated environments.
- Employee experience is part of governance — clarity reduces friction.
- Modernization should be intentional — not just “turning things on.”
Change Management Philosophy
Technology only delivers value when people understand it, trust it, and feel supported using it.
Modern Shift approaches every engagement — governance, migration, employee experience, or documentation — with a strong change management mindset.
Clear communication, intentional rollout planning, and practical enablement are built into the way I work.
- Communicate early, clearly, and consistently
- Align stakeholders before decisions are finalized
- Design experiences that reduce friction for employees
- Support site owners, Teams owners, and champions
- Reinforce changes with simple, repeatable practices
Change management isn’t a separate workstream — it’s part of delivering a modern, sustainable Microsoft 365 environment.
